Last time in Vinland Saga…
Thorfinn had another nightmare, this time, he saw himself trying to kill Einer and his family. He woke up screaming and told Einer that he was falling off a cliff. Einer was surprised to find out that Thorfinn remembered his dream, unlike before. Einer said he used to scream a lot in his sleep, and mentioned the name “Askelad” and his father, “Thorus”. Thorfinn felt like he had forgotten something really important.
Then they both went to work, and some servants came to collect the wood that Einer and Thorfinn had cut. The servants were angry at Qutil for allowing the slaves to do the farm work. Later, Thorfinn tells Einer that Askelade was the man who killed his father and how he joined his crew for revenge. Thorfinn tells him that he has followed him for 11 years in hopes of defeating him in battle; However, Asklad was killed by someone else.
Thorfinn states that he no longer hates Askelade, but felt empty without hate because he had grown up keeping that feeling in his heart. Then they went hunting with Sverkel, the latter saying he must be empty if he wanted to be born again, and Thorfinn wondered what it meant to be born again. The next day when they head out to the field to work, they notice that their crops have been ruined. Einer knew it was the servants’ work. However, Thorfinn suggested talking to Pater first. Butter asked them to leave the farm because it was for investigation purposes and told them to report the incident to Keitel.
Then Thorfinn and Einer saw the servants approaching, and the former suggested they go the other way, but Einer walked towards them and asked one of them if it was their doing. The man denied this, but rather mentioned that the crops used to be grown by slaves, so it is not suitable for eating. This enraged Einer, and he was about to punch the man, but Thorfinn punched him first and broke his jaw. Then everyone started to fight, and Thorfinn remembered the dream where his father was trying to tell him something.
