‘Trigun Stampede’ episode. 8 “Our House”: The Vash Backstory We Needed [Anime Review]

Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our Home”. In fact it gives us new details about Vash the Stampede’s backstory that weren’t present in the original 1998 anime. In other words: the writers are actually filling in gaps in the canon rather than trying to change the canon altogether. To me, that’s what Orange should have been doing all along. Well, I guess better late than never.

Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our Home”: Plot Summary

the only Trigon Anime showing where Fash’s jacket came from.

Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our Home”. Actually where we left off last time in the previous episode. Instead, the story goes back to the distant past. Specifically: right after Vash crashes on the planet Gunsmoke and discovers that his brother Knives is the one who wrecked the entire colonization fleet in an attempt to kill all humans. Apparently, it’s all because Vash obtained the authorization codes for the Knives Fleet with no doubt as to why she wanted them.

To be fair, Vash was just a kid at the time. He could never suspect that his little brother was a psychopath. Unfortunately, this does not make Fash feel guilty about it. He runs away from knives in an attempt to commit suicide in the desert. Luckily for him, the survivors of the wrecked but intact Ship 3 rescue him and take him in. The survivors’ scanners instantly recognize Vash as a humanoid plant. 2IC, Brad, is suspicious of Vash and thinks he is a potential threat. But their leader, Lucida Leitner, only sees a little boy in trouble and in need of help. Thus, Fache stays with them as their guest. albeit handcuffed at all times, but at least he has a place to live and eat every day. Even if he refuses to eat due to depression, but that’s a minor detail there.

Fash: The Whisperer?

And without any need for an actual whisper, either.

Vash’s daily boredom ends when Ship 3’s electrical plant (get it?) starts dying, and the crew has no idea why. Vash does though, and after convincing the crew (mostly Lucida) to let him help, does some sort of… psychic thing with the plant that calms him down and restores him to health. Vash claimed earlier that he had no botanical ability, but now that appears to be incorrect and that his botanical ability is, in fact, healing other plants.

This one ability makes Vash a hero to the survivors, especially once he starts traveling to other wrecked ships to heal their plants as well. With the survivors asking questions and taking notes all the time, it seems to indicate that Vash accidentally forms the entire basis behind the plant’s maintenance in the present. Because of this, he gains his freedom, and Ship 3 gives him his signature red jacket and offers to make the Ship his home. Finally, Vash has a place he can belong again.

Then Brad finally fixes Ship 5’s black box: the Vash and Knives ship was with Rem. He and Lucida discover that Knives was the one who wrecked the entire fleet, and immediately suspect Vash of deliberately handing over the codes despite having worked with them for the past five years. Filled with guilt again, Vash sets out to deal with the Knives once and for all, leaving only a note of apology in Ship 3. Now guilt-ridden for suspecting Vash, Lucida sets out to bring him back.

Meanwhile, Vash finds Knives in another wrecked ship. Only, he is with a couple of new cult-like people, and the entire ship is filled with seemingly dead plants. Why? Well, that’s what we’ll supposedly find out in the next episode of Trigon stampede.

Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our Home”: The Good

Vash and Knives have never been as good as when they were with Rem, and they never will.

The best thing about Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our Home”. Is that they did not try to change radically Trigon canon as they used to do in previous episodes. Instead, they take the holes in the canon and fill them in. If they need to change the hole a bit to make the padding fit, that’s fine. It’s so much better than trying to drill brand new holes. In fact, this is one of the best episodes Sealed TrigunPrecisely because he fills holes right after Vash lands on the planet Gunsmoke. We actually see him get his family back in the form of Ship 3, and find out where he got his red coat from. Now if Orange was the only one who did this for the entire anime, then Trigon stampede It will be better than it is now. As is the case …

Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our House”: The Bad

It’s amazing how bad their attempt to fix the black box can be for Vash.

Although Meryl does not appear in Trigon stampede Episode 8 “Our House” For obvious reasons, it’s hard to forget how the writers butchered her character. Especially considering how good this episode was. This episode should have been the point of the anime. The fact that Orange went out of its way to make the Trigun Stampede a full support unit only confuses things and alienates fans of the original canon. Meryl Stryfe’s radically altered personality (as well as the complete omission of Milly Thompson from the story) are the most obvious examples. That’s why I can’t give this episode a full score. The grandeur of this episode makes you remember Meryl’s bad taste.
