Exiting the cinema, some Demon Slayer fans show their displeasure with Kimetsu no Yaiba – on the way to the blacksmith’s village. Justified or not?

This past weekend, the new Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – On the Way to the Village grossed $10 million for the first time in the US and Canada according to numbers reported by IGN by Comscore. It’s a decent result however, and it’s still half of what the last feature film The Infinity Train grossed over its opening weekend in 2021 to $21 million. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – On the Road to the Blacksmith’s Village is not a real animated film made for the cinema, but a collection of episodes 10 and 11 of the Pleasure Quarter arc, followed by the first episode of season 3, i.e. of the Blacksmith’s Village. A very different approach from Train of the Infinite, which adapted an arc unprecedented in animation for the cinema, before it was cut into several parts for streaming viewing. And the reactions are quite mixed.

When fans are disappointed

For many fans, the unreleased sequel clearly wasn’t enough to warrant such a release., some even invoking a “scam” to use terms our colleagues at IGN spotted, and more than half of the film ultimately served as a synopsis. “Don’t waste your time with this, save money“,”They ripped everyone apart with the Demon Slayer but I think it could have been worse“, “They got me this movie which got me to watch two episodes of synopsis and a new episodeMay we read in a handful of tweets. Others will conversely admit that the film’s description was rather blunt about its contents.

This new movie will feature Episodes 10 and 11 of the Pleasure Quarter arc, which were praised for their frenzied scenes and heart-wrenching scenario, as well as the first episode of the next arc, Blacksmith’s Village. On this occasion, the episodes have been converted to 4K and the music has been remixed for a unique experience on the big screen! Custom description

In Japan, however, the second Demon Slayer movie was a massive hit ten days after it aired, and the movie has already clocked in at over $2 billion, or just over €14 million. As a reminder, The Adventures of Tanjiro will continue from April 9th. So this third season will open on the Blacksmith Village arc. Our heroes will go in search of a new sword for Tanjiro.
