Any Marvel fan can’t help but love Tony Stark’s Iron Man. Whether from the comics or in the MCU, Iron Man is one of the most iconic superheroes to ever exist. This year marks the character’s 60th anniversary and Marvel is going all out and giving him the birthday he deserves. Marvel will release a relaunch of Invincible Iron Man in December. So let’s dissect all the information we have about it.
Invincible Iron Man
Writer Gerry Duggan and artist Juan Frigeri bring Invincible Iron Man back to a new era. Invincible Iron Man will supposedly put Tony Stark on the bottom and let him fight his way out. He will face a crushing defeat from a well-known villain. Here’s the synopsis.
“It all ends here? Tony Stark, the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist, has lost everything: his wealth… his fame… his friends. But Stark doesn’t realize he has so much more to lose, especially when a mysterious villain gives him a hit! Every assassin in the Marvel universe has come out of the shadows for Tony – and he has no idea who hired them! Will this cavalcade of assassins close the book on Iron Man? It’s the beginning of the end as the Golden Avenger must fight for his life and discover what it really means to bottom out.”
In the current Iron Man storyline created by Christopher Cantwell, Iron Man has done it all. From his confrontation with Korvac to his rehab, he has endured some very tough challenges. However, this next fight could well be the toughest of his life, and he is destined to lose. It only seems fitting that such an epic character gets a reboot of such epic proportions.
Remembering his origin
Iron Man was created with the combined efforts of four legendary artists: editor and plotter Stan Lee, screenwriter Larry Lieber, story artist Don Heck, and cover artist and character designer Jack Kirby. Stan Lee wanted to create a man who supposedly had everything, wealth, charm, the ladies, but was still broken inside. He wanted to create a man who is easy to hate, the epitome of war and capitalism, yet try to get the public to love and cheer for him. It would be quite an understatement to say he succeeded.
Iron Man first appeared in 1963 in Stories of tension no. 39. It followed Tony Stark as he showed off his latest creations, microtransistors that could power things like magnets; turn them into powerful weapons. The villain was the evil Red Tyrant Wong-Chu who was determined to bring Vietnam under his control. The rest as we know it involves Tony Stark making the life saving suit and also saving the day.
A few highlights from his successful career as a superhero
Wolverine’s Adamantium and Black Panther’s Vibranium are known as two of the most powerful and durable substances on Earth. They can cut through anything and protect someone from anything. But Iron Man manages to do the impossible. When Cardiac Stark took scientists and imprisoned them, Iron Man managed to break through the Adamantium and Vibranium orb and help them breathe. He did this by propelling himself like a rocket. Although this seriously injured his arm, the feat is still a tremendous display of strength and intellect.
She-Hulk has made several appearances with the Avengers. In one of them, she was manipulated and controlled by none other than Scarlet Witch and turned into a mindless, evil weapon. She was so powerful she tore Vision in half. Crazy right? And then there was Iron Man. He pulled her out with a single blow.
He created a suit known as the Phoenix-Buster that took over the entity of the Phoenix force and broke it, causing it to shatter. His Thor-Buster armor is up against Thor. He was once Captain Marvel, someone who is considered the most powerful Avenger. He has of course taken over the Hulk with his Hulk-Buster armor. He even defeated Magneto by creating a suit without metal and using Jupiter’s magnetic field to power it. This man is the perfect combination of strength and intelligence. After all, even without his suit, he is still a genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. He is IRONMAN.
