Here is a list of the upcoming events and classes offered by the UF-IFAS Osceola County Extension Tableware office. Some events are virtual, others are in person at Osceola Heritage Park or other locations. Some are free and some have a fee and require registration; note the instructions for each class.

Starting Your Own Cottage Food Business

Beekeeping: is it for me?

September 14, 6-8pm, register online: http://oc farming.eventbrite.com Find out if beekeeping is a good hobby or business for you! We cover the basic considerations for potential beekeepers: start-up costs, legal aspects, space needs, physical requirements, risks, necessary equipment and time requirements for maintaining the hive. Before attending the October Intro to Beekeeping series in person, take this lesson.

Osceola County 4-H Horse Program Open House

September 19, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, UF|IFAS Extension Osceola County Stop hanging out and join us to learn more about the Osceola County 4-H program. Meet our 4-H program members, volunteers, and get your questions answered. If you are between the ages of 8 and 18 and have an interest in horses, this is a program you will love! Make friends, gain horse knowledge, improve leadership skills and learn public speaking.

Introduction to the beekeeping series

October 12, 19 & 26, 6-8pm, UF|IFAS Extension Services-Osceola Register: http://oc farming.eventbrite.com

This series will give you the basics to get started with your bee hobby or business. You will learn about the components of a hive, how a bee colony lives, how to use beekeeping tools and protective equipment, and how to acquire and manage your own bee colonies.

Trees Osceola – Flowering trees for your garden

October 15, 10-11am, UF/IFAS Extension Osceola County, OHP Registration is required at: http://ocagriculture.eventbrite.com

During the lesson we will discuss the basic steps of planting, caring and building a tree. In addition, we would talk about flowering trees that can beautify your garden. If you went to class, you would take home a beautiful flowering tree.

During the lesson, we will talk about trees that you can add to your garden and that you can enjoy harvesting fruit from. We are going to talk about selecting the location and the right trees and plants.

Wildlife habitat

Registration is required via: http://ocagriculture. eventbrite.com With rapid urban growth, nature is losing some of its most important plants. During the lesson we talked about the importance of adding plants to the garden to provide some food and shelter for the Florida Wildlife.

Add color to your garden

Nov. 19, 2 p.m., UF/IFAS Extension Osceola County, OHP, $5 Registration required at: http://ocagriculture. eventbrite.com Color is a wonderful asset to a garden. In this lesson you will learn about low maintenance and Florida friendly plants that you can add to your garden to add color.
