Former players share Michigan stories during Buckeye Bash in Mansfield

Marcus Hall gasped and laughed this week when he recounted how the head coaches at Ohio State and Michigan drafted him heavily.

He was a senior at Glenville High School in Cleveland when the pressure literally hit him, he told nearly 200 attendees at the Buckeye Bash for Richland County alumni.

Michigan’s Rich Rodriguez surprised him at school one day, hoping to get a commitment from the nationally ranked offensive tackle before signing day.

Chris Nadler, left, looks on after asking former Buckeye greats Marcus Hall, Bryant Browning and Chimdi Chekwa a question about playing Michigan during The Game this week at Buckeye Bash in Mansfield.

Then the 6-foot-5, 300-pound student received alarming news.

“Jim Tressel was at my house,” Hall said.

After a quick tour of the school, Rodriguez told the recruit that he wanted to meet his mother. Hall instantly gagged with worry. He reluctantly agreed.

Hall told the audience that as he drove the jolly Rich Rod to his apartment building, he prayed that the Buckeye carriage had already left.
