Disney Dreamlight Valley Fishing Guide

Fishing in Disney Dreamlight Valley is quite simple compared to some of the other games out there. You get a fishing rod from Goofy after you complete his quest where he asks you to find his missing lucky rod. Once you bring it back, he will give you a rod of your own to use. This is essential for progress in the game, and it’s an easy way to get ingredients for your meals, earn some quick cash, and also give gifts to the town’s residents!

You can access the rod by pressing the number “4” on a keyboard and by pressing the right button to open the radial menu and select the rod from there on a controller. Once you have your rod in hand, walk to one of the waterholes where you will see bubbles rising from a ring in the water.

How Disney Dreamlight Valley Fishing works

To cast your line on a keyboard, you have to hold down the space bar. On a controller, hold down the X button. Once you have a bite on the line, you will see a large ring shape around the fish wrinkle. From there you will be prompted to click the left mouse button if you are using PC control or press X on a controller at the right time (when the big ring slowly shrinks to the size of the original ripple and turns green) to start it to bring in. You have to hit X or press X a few times to finally bring that bad boy in, but then it’s over and you can rinse and repeat.

You can find waterholes all over the map, or in the ocean. They are fairly easy to spot, but note the color of the ripples and bubbles in the water. There are three different colors of fish ripples you will encounter; white, blue and orange. The color of the ripple determines the rarity of the fish that can be caught there, white is the basic and easy to catch fish, blue is a bit rare and orange is the rarest fish available in that area. The rarer the fish, the harder it is to catch, meaning you’ll need to pull a few more times before you have a successful catch.

Best way to fish? Disney Dreamlight Valley

One of the best ways we’ve found to fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley is to always take a companion with you! If you go to any of the town’s residents and talk to them, you’ll see an option that says “Let’s hang out!”. This will cause that resident to follow you as you complete tasks, and if they level up to you doing your tasks, such as ore mining, farming, and of course fishing. As you progress, you will be asked to choose a role for each inhabitant of the city, so pick one for fishing. Now this is the companion you want to have with you when you travel to catch fish as this trait allows you to catch bonus fish.

How to automate fishing with Moana’s Boat

To unlock Moana’s fishing boat, you must first enter the Disney Dream Castle and open the door to her world. Once there, she will have a few missions that you need to complete to take to the sea calling her again! First, you will find a few materials on the beach, such as Silk and Wood Planks, and return them to Moana.

From there, speak to the demigod of the wind and sea, Maui, who will test you by asking you questions about himself. After that, head back to Moana and complete her “How Far You’ll Go” quest, where you’ll be given a map of the ocean to look at. From there, you and Moana set course to find a light to break the fog that blankets your path to the greatest fishing spot ever known. After completing her missions and returning to dream light valley, you have to get back to Maui who stayed behind on the island. He will ask you to make him a three star meal so he can move to the valley as well.

Once you progress through the main storyline to Dazzle Beach and have Moana’s friendship level at least 6, she will give you a quest called “Fixing the Boat”. To complete the quest you need 50 Softwood, 70 Fiber and 3 Pink Hydrangea. Collect all the necessary materials, return them to Moana on Dazzle Beach, and you now have a boat! Moana then goes on a journey to collect fish for you and the boat can be upgraded multiple times to increase efficiency.
